Widening ofThimphu-Wangdue Highway. There’s supposed to be a pause in the ongoing widening of the Thimphu-Wangdue highway from the end of June till the monsoon is over. But the widening works continue. The Department of Roads says the monsoon this time around, is not so bad to stall the work.

The Director of the Department of Roads, Karma Gelay, says they are supposed to do the widening till Chuserbo in Chendebji. “But we were told to continue the works till Trashigang. So we have a massive work ahead, we are trying as much to save time and budget for quick completion of the work.”

The Department of Roads says every effort is being made to ensure the quality of the highway.

As the work continues so does complaints from the travellers on the road blocks.

The Department of Roads says the road blocks are inevitable. It is to ensure swift progress of the widening works. Director Karma Gelay said the highway widening is being done for the benefit of public and the work requires public support.

So far, 32 kilometres of highway has been widened, which cost Nu.160 MN.
