PM-OAG-LhakhangKarpo-Meet the PressThe Prime Minister, Tshering Tobgay said the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) took more time than necessary to prosecute the Lhakhang Karpo case. Lyonchhen said the government will do their job once OAG files in the case.

“…I have made it very clear to them that they have taken more time than necessary to prosecute the case. They said as per their procedure they have to discuss with the ACC and after they finished doing so the parliamentary session began and couldn’t prosecute it.”

The Prime Minister said the government was informed that OAG has all the papers ready.

Lyonchhen said he even asked Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) if there would be a conflict of interest for OAG to prosecute the case as since OAG is a government lawyer. “ACC confirmed that OAG can go ahead.”

Anti-Corruption Commission’s investigation had found out the construction materials from the Lhakhang Karpo’s construction sites were siphoned off. The present Foreign Minister, who was the then Haa Dzongda is said to have awarded the works unilaterally.

ACC is also said to have uncovered use of substandard material and muster roll fraud, among other fraudulent activities.
