Japan proposes to open their embassy

Chairman of the Standing Committee of Foreign Affairs of the House of Representatives-Katsuyuki KawaiThe Chairman of the Standing Committee of Foreign Affairs of the House of Representatives from Japan, Katsuyuki Kawai, said that Japan is proposing to open their embassy in Thimphu by April next year.

Speaking to BBS he also said that it was the first time that the House of Representatives of Japan is sending a delegation to a foreign country. “Out of the more than 200 countries that Japan has diplomatic relations, I chose to come to Bhutan. And I have not made a mistake,” he added.

This is Mr. Katsuyuki Kawai’s third visit to Bhutan.

He and his nine member delegation visited the Tashichhodzong today.

Mr. Kawai is an elected member from Hiroshima’s 3rd District. He has been elected five times to the House of Representatives. He studied Law at the Keio University in Japan. Mr. Kawai has also served as the Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs and as the Senior Vice Minister for Justice among other prestigious posts.

Earlier in the day, Mr. Kawai visited the Rinchen Kuenphen Lower Secondary School. He talked to the students and visited few classrooms as well.
