fOOTBALL--zHEMGANGThe much awaited football tournament in Zhemgang began on Saturday. A total of 19 teams are taking part in the tournament. Our reporter in Zhemgang, Pema Samdrup, says with no other recreational facilities or entertainment this Multi-Sector Task Force Rolling Trophy is their biggest sporting event.

Some of the local residents say it’s a big entertainment for them to rejoice once in a year, after tiring office work and households chores.

The tournament comes with a theme. According to MSTF Member Secretary, the tournament is being organised to create awareness on HIV/AIDS and raise fund for the MSTF of Zhemgang.

The tournament is being held at the Zhemgang Lower Secondary School ground. Teams from as far as Phangkhar in Panbang Dungkhag and Tingtibi are taking part.

Our reporter says that hundreds of spectators including housewives and children witness the match and cheer for their favourite teams every day.
