Her Majesty Queen Mother Tseyring Pem Wangchuck inaugurated an art exhibition titled “Light on the Snow Land: Art of Peace and Spiritual Harmony.” The three-day exhibition brings together Bhutanese and Hong Kong artists. It uses art and spirituality to promote peace, harmony and cultural exchange.
The exhibition features works by Hong Kong-based master artist Zhao Zhijing, known for his contemporary Chinese ink painting and calligraphy. It also includes a series of horse paintings inspired by his personal journey.
Organised by the Central Monastic Body, the exhibition marks an artistic and cultural exchange between Hong Kong and Bhutan. It also features contemporary interpretations by Bhutanese artists, creating opportunities for dialogue between the two artistic traditions.
Organisers say the exhibition also reflects the broader vision of Gelephu Mindfulness City, where spirituality, culture and wellbeing are expected to play an important role.
“There will be many centres built in Gelephu Mindfulness City, and each centre will provide services or become a place for practising meditation and compassion. In order to provide these holistic services, this exhibition serves as preparation for the upcoming Gelephu Mindfulness City and its related activities, particularly religious activities. This exhibition deeply resonates with the vision of Gelephu Mindfulness City, particularly in terms of sacralising the space in the city,” said Choten Dorji, Principal Secretary to Laytshog Lopen.
The Central Monastic Body and an overseas goodwill ambassador associated with Shambhala Dzong in Gelephu Mindfulness City signed a partnership agreement.
“Shambhala Dzong will represent Bhutan’s living culture and heritage, reflecting our long-standing traditions. It is not being built for Bhutanese people alone, but for people from around the world,” said Sangay Dorji, Laytshog Lopen, Central Monastic Body.
“As a goodwill ambassador, my role is to foster cultural exchange and understanding. With the new developments in Shambhala dzong, we look forward to participating in upcoming art projects and exhibitions, bringing artists from both sides together to engage in dialogue and showcase their work,” said Rebecca Wong, Overseas Goodwill Ambassador.
The exhibition will be open to visitors until Wednesday at Tara Zhingkham in Samtenling in Thimphu.
