For decades, Bhutan’s economy has relied heavily on hydropower and other natural resources. Now, the country is exploring a new opportunity in health research and innovation. Druk Holding & Investments has partnered with the US-based Tower Council Foundation to create a global platform for research, clinical practice, data and innovation.
What if healthcare could go beyond treating an illness after it appears? That is the idea behind a new partnership between Druk Holding and Investments and the US-based Tower Council Foundation.
The Tower Council Foundation is an independent charitable foundation dedicated to improving health across generations.
The partnership aims to build a health ecosystem that looks at people’s health across their lifetime and how those factors could potentially affect future generations. This is known as generational health.
It will explore how factors such as genetics, environment and lifestyle can affect health and how this knowledge could help prevent illness and improve people’s lives.
The partnership will focus on areas such as regenerative medicine, healthy ageing, advanced diagnostics, women’s health and mental health.
According to DHI’s news release, the initiative aligns with its 10X strategy to develop new industries and an innovation-led economy.
The collaboration is expected to open opportunities for research, entrepreneurship, investment and commercialisation, while strengthening Bhutan’s capacity in health and medical research.
But this is still at an early stage. Specific projects, investment amounts and implementation timelines have not yet been announced.
