Participation in the annual HRH Gyalsey Math Award continues to grow. This year recorded the highest number of participants with more than 4,200 students from middle and higher secondary schools across the country competing for the award. Six students were awarded the HRH Gyalsey Math Award in the capital today for their outstanding performance in mathematics. The winners received certificates and cash prizes.

Anju Gautam

In the Middle Secondary School category, which includes Class IX and X, Anju Gautam of Phuentshogling Higher Secondary School took first place.

Ausmithata Gurung of Dagapela Middle Secondary School in Dagana claimed second place, while Sangay Drukdra of Phobjikha Higher Secondary School in Wangdue Phodrang secured third place. They sat for an online examination in November last year.

“I hope to participate in the future if I have an opportunity, and I hope to pursue math in the future as well. I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to my teachers and all of my colleagues and friends for supporting me,” said Anju Gautam, Winner, Phuentshogling Higher Secondary School.

Wangchuk Sonam

In the Higher Secondary School category, comprising Class XI and XII students, Wangchuk Sonam of Sherubling Higher Secondary School in Trongsa won first prize.

Srijan Adhikari of Norbugang Higher Secondary School in Samtse took second place, and Ngawang Pelden of Kunzangling Higher Secondary School in Trashi Yangtse finished third.

“Today, I am very happy as I receive this award. I wish to participate in such opportunities in the future. I also hope to help and motivate my friends to participate too. I would like to thank everyone for the support,” said Wangchuk Sonam, Winner, Sherubling Higher Secondary School.

The education ministry awarded Nu 150,000 to first-place winners, Nu 100,000 to second-place holders, and Nu 75,000 to third-place winners.

Instituted in 2022, the annual HRH Gyalsey Math Award promotes the study of mathematics in the education system and encourages students to develop a deeper interest in the subject.
