To improve durability and sustainability, the government has started laying concrete on farm roads. In Chhukha’s Bjabchho Gewog, residents of Tsimakha village can now have better connectivity with the laying of concrete on their farm road.
The new three-kilometre farm road was inaugurated yesterday, bringing much relief to residents who have long struggled with poor road conditions.
In the past, the stretch would turn muddy and slippery with potholes during the monsoon, and in winter, thick dust made travel equally difficult.
Farmers say the road conditions often delay taking their produce to the market.
They are hopeful that the new concrete road will not only ease transportation but also boost agriculture and improve livelihoods.
Tashi Wangdi, the chairperson of Tsimakha Farm Road Committee said, “Now that we have the new concrete road, the committee will take proper care of it to ensure it remains in good condition. We regularly clean the drains and carry out minor maintenance together, and we will continue to do so.”
Tsheku Dorji, Tsimalakha-Tsimasham Tshogpa said, “The new road will make a huge difference. Since people here depend entirely on agriculture, taking produce to the market has always been a challenge. From now on, farmers can easily transport their harvest to the markets.”
The Nu 6 M project was supported by the Government of India and is expected to benefit more than 50 households in the chiwog.
Officials from the district administration said laying of concrete on the road will require minimal maintenance, making it sustainable in the long run.
