A Project Monitoring Committee meeting held in the capital noted that projects funded by the government of India have recorded steady progress. The government of India has disbursed almost Nu 18bn from the Nu 100bn committed to support Bhutan’s 13th Five-Year Plan.
The funds delivered so far have been disbursed across four funding categories.
Under the Project-Tied Assistance, PTA project, India has released more than Nu 5bn for infrastructure development in health, road construction, and culture preservation. The government of India has committed Nu 70bn for the PTA projects, of which more than Nu 50bn has been approved.
Two major projects, Lingzhi Dzong renovation and construction of the double-lane reinforced concrete bridge at Pangrizampa, have been completed so far under the PTA project.
For the High Impact Community Development Project, India has committed Nu 10bn, out of which almost Nu 4bn has been disbursed.
More than 280 projects were approved in the first batch of the High Impact Community Development Project, covering areas such as drinking water supply, irrigation, and rural connectivity, among others.
For the Economic Stimulus Programme, half of the Nu 15bn approved has already been released.
And under the Programme Grant, Nu 1bn has been disbursed from the 5bn committed.
The Project Monitoring Committee meeting is a platform to review project progress, address challenges, and fast-track disbursement where necessary.
The Government of India’s support and assistance to Bhutan’s 13th Five-Year Plan continue to support key areas such as infrastructure, health, education, and economic revitalisation.
