Tourist arrival for second quarter of 2024 doubles

Tourist arrivals in the country for second quarter which is from April to June this year increased by over 23 per cent as compared to the same period last year. The figure has also doubled since the first quarter. Over 50,000 tourists visited Bhutan in the three-month period contributing over USD 8 M which is equivalent to over Nu 730 M in revenue. This is according to the Socio-Economic Indicators report the National Statistics Bureau published recently.

From January till June, more than 75,000 tourists visited Bhutan this year. More than 13,000 international tourists and over 37,000 Indians visited the country from April to June.

Tourist arrival saw a decrease by 29.36 per cent and tourist revenue dropped by 21.42 per cent in the first quarter of this year compared to the fourth quarter of last year.

However, the second quarter report shows significant surge in the number of tourist arrival. The total revenue generated from tourist arrivals increased by 48 per cent compared to the first quarter.

The report also showed increasing number of Indians visiting the country in the second quarter compared to almost 15,000 in the first quarter.
