There is good news for football fans in Samdrup Jongkhar. The construction of the Samdrup Jongkhar Thromde football stadium is finally completed. Spectators can now enjoy matches comfortably with proper seating. Before, they had to brave the rain or stand to watch the matches. The Samdrup Jongkhar Thromde spent Nu 65 M to construct the stadium.

Recently, a departmental football tournament was held at the Samdrup Jongkhar football ground. For the first time, spectators were treated to proper seating galleries, making their viewing experience much better.

The ground hosts about three football tournaments every year. An open veteran football tournament is scheduled to take place at the newly constructed stadium next month.

“It’s so much convenient now. Samdrup Jongkhar Thromde has always supported the sports association here and their effort in constructing this stadium is greatly appreciated. Earlier, spectators had to watch matches in the rain during such tournaments due to the lack of a proper stadium,” said Norbu Zangpo, a resident.

“From now on, I think football will thrive here. Football players thrive on the energy of the crowd and having proper seating for spectators will undoubtedly enhance the sporting experience. With proper stadium in place, football will flourish,” said Penjor, also a resident.

In addition to comfortable seating galleries for spectators, the stadium has facilities such as changing rooms, toilets, and a media room.

The stadium construction was initially supposed to be completed by May 2022. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and heavy monsoon rains, the construction faced delays.

The completion of the stadium has also opened a new venue for hosting national events such as the National Day and His Majesty’s Birthday celebrations.

The local administration recently celebrated His Majesty’s 44th Birthday at the Samdrup Jongkhar Thromde football ground.
