Bhutan bags six golds, six silvers and four bronze medals at Kalimpong Open Karate Championship

A group of karatekas from Bhutan put up an impressive performance at the third Kalimpong Open Karate Championship held during the last two days in India’s West Bengal state. All 13 of the Bhutanese participants won medals, with team Bhutan securing six golds, six silvers, and four bronze medals at the two-day event.

In the female category, Aanisha Rai won a gold in Kata and a silver in Kumite in the age 16 to 17 category. Similarly, Riya Subba bagged a  bronze in Kata and a gold in Kumite in the age 12 to 13 category.

Likewise, Kelzang Yeezang Choeden secured a bronze in Kumite in the age 12 to 13 category. Versha Rai also won a silver in Kata and gold in kumite in the age 14 to 15 category.

Swastika Monger took home a silver in kata in the age 12 to 13 category. Likewise, Pema Choden won bronze in the age 12 to 13 kata category.

In the male category, Tshering Phuntsho and Passang Tobgay secured a gold each in the 18-plus kumite category.

Rinchen Jamtsho, Pema Dorji and Passang Wangchuk collected a silver each in kumite in the same category. Meanwhile, Ugyen Namgay received gold in kumite in the age 12 to 13 category while Tandin Yarab Dorji won a bronze in the age 12 to 13 kumite category.

The tournament saw the participation of around 120 karatekas from Bhutan and various karate institutions in India.
