The Bhutan Kuen-Nyam Party or BKP has yet to decide on whether to contest the upcoming parliamentary elections or not. The party’s general secretary said its executive committee will meet next month to decide on the matter. BKP was registered as a political party in 2013.

After losing the primary round of the 2018 parliamentary elections, BKP said it will not only contest the 2023 elections but also win it. The party said this despite being ineligible for state funding to prepare and contest the upcoming elections.

A political party needs to secure 10 per cent of the total votes to be eligible for state funding.

However, BKP managed to secure only 9.78 per cent of the total votes during the last parliamentary elections.

The Election Commission says as it is currently focused on the National Council Election, the Commission has yet to decide on the upcoming National Assembly Election including state funding.

During the 2013 parliamentary election, aside from the state fund, the state also sponsored campaign materials and provided air time and print media space to all political parties. The state spent around Nu 30 M and each political party received around Nu 7.5 M.
