Bhutan is taking part in the World Expo, currently taking place at Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.

A world expo is an international exhibition held every five years providing a platform to showcase the greatest innovations that have shaped the world so far. The Expo 2020 started from first October and will continue till the end of March next year.

For the past two weeks since the Expo started, the Bhutanese Pavilion has been attracting thousands of curious visitors.

Under the banner ‘Gross National Happiness’, it features cultural artefacts, religious items, traditional garments, organic produce, and contemporary art and craft.

According to one the representatives, most of the visitors have been drawn in the country’s GNH philosophy and tourism.

Pem Zam, the Pavilion Director said, “The international business sector’s interest in Bhutan is mainly on tourism and FDI and also on Gross National Happiness focusing on the four pillars, conservation of environment and promotion and preservation of culture.”

The team says Bhutan also plans to promote itself as a new destination for the IT industry.

The six-month long, multibillion-dollar global fair was supposed to be held from October last year. However, it got postponed due to the pandemic. More than 190 countries are attending the Expo.
