Small and Micro Businesses can now pay their taxes online through the BETA app. This is to keep up with the digital advancement and to make it convenient for both the taxpayers and the officials. The Ministry of Finance launched the BETA app today.

Every year, the manual assessment of literally going and paying lump-sum business income tax is quite a tedious task. The BETA app has been designed to facilitate tax payment for small and micro businesses through their phones. According to the Department of Revenue and Customs who developed the app, this will also contribute to preventing gatherings during the current situation.

“Normally our tax officials go to the shops and assess the tax liability, with this app taxpayers will be filling up the basic information and submitting to the ROC concerned. Once they submit that information, our tax officials will be assessing the tax liability and informing the taxpayers through the app. Once the tax is finalised they will also get the information on the mobile,” said Tashi Wangmo, the Officiating Income Tax Commissioner at the Department of Revenue and Customs with the Finance Ministry.

Officials are now hoping they can convince taxpayers to get rid of the conventional method.

“It was actually a dream in 2019 but it became a reality today because of the team I had. We had an IT person who just came back from doing her masters. Who had done her thesis in app development, and then we have young tax officials posted to the unit. Now the biggest challenge we face is how we are going to create awareness during the current COVID-19 situation,” said Kaysang W. Samdup, the Media and Communication Specialist with the DRC.

Around 30,000 businesses are expected to be benefitted from the new app.

The app can be freely downloaded on both Android and IOS devices.
