ENT camp in Monggar treats about 345 people

People in the east are grateful for bringing the ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat) services to their region. More than 345 people from across the eastern region were examined and treated during the two-day ENT camp in Monggar Regional Referral Hospital that ended yesterday.

A medical team from Thailand in collaboration with the Ministry of Health organised the camp.

For the residents of Monggar and other eastern regions, such initiative helped them to reduce cost and time to travel all the way to the National Referral Hospital in Thimphu to get the same medical services.

“Since I have a hearing problem, I came here for medical checkup. Although there are ENT specialists in Thimphu, it’s too far from our place. And also I don’t have any relatives to stay in Thimphu. And due to ageing, it is inconvenient to travel a long distance. So when the government provides us with such medical services, we are immensely benefitted,” said Namgangla, a Resident of Monggar Town.

Of the total, 49 patients with cases related to ears underwent surgery during the two-day camp. And apart from ears, 5 patients underwent surgeries related to nose and throat.

Monggar Regional Referral Hospital also welcomes the ENT camp since the hospital has been without ENT specialist for over a couple of years. Without ENT Specialist in the regional hospital, currently cases related to ear, nose and throat are referred to Thimphu.
