The Technical Training Institute (TTI) and the National Institute for Zorig Chusum of Thimphu will be relocated to Serbithang from the present locations in the 12th Five Year Plan.
“The move behind relocating the present TTI and Institute of Zorig Chusum is to increase intake capacity. Once shifted to Serbithang, we will be able to provide more opportunities to those who are willing to take up technical training education and Zorig Chusum,” said Ugyen Dorji, the Labour Minister.
The minister for labour and human resources shared this yesterday during the question hour session in the National Assembly. The minister shared this in response to a question on the government’s plans of establishing new TTI and Zorig Chusum Institutes in the 12th Five Year Plan.
The minister said, considering the dire need of technically skilled human resources in the country, the government has allocated over Nu 2bn in the 12th Five Year Plan. It is to reform and professionalise the technical and vocational education system.
The minister added that the ministry also has plans to extend some existing TTI and to build a new institute.
“The budget for constructing a new TTI in the 12th Five Year Plan also got approved from the National Assembly. With this, the government targets to provide technical training education to over 20 per cent of higher secondary graduates in the 12th Five Year Plan,” Lyonpo added.
The minister informed the house that, the ministry introduced a short-term training course called critical skills training programme. It aims to provide training to thousands of youth.
The National Institute for Zorig Chusum and The Technical Training Institute of Thimphu were established in 1971 and 2008 respectively.
