The President of the Bhutan Kuen-Nyam Party (BKP), Dasho Neten Zangmo, has submitted resignation letter seeking to step down from the post of the party president.

The letter, dated September 16, 2018 was shared on the BKP’s Facebook page this evening.

Dasho Neten Zangmo led her party BKP to the primary polls for the Third National Assembly election held on September 15. She was the lone woman party president.

In her resignation letter, Dasho writes her party fetched a dismal 28,473 votes, which is 9.78 per cent of the total votes cast in the primary round.

“As the President, I singularly bear the responsibility for the debacle and I have to be accountable. Therefore, being fully conscious of my sacred duty and sincerely adhering to the BKP’s principle of party taking precedence over individuals, I offer to step down from the post of the party president,” Dasho stated.

Dasho added the offer to step down is neither rhetoric nor a perfunctory formality that she is trying to fulfil.

“Further, I’m also willing to withdraw my candidature if BKP desires to explore for another candidate with strong support base from Dewathang_Gomdar constituency.”

BKP instilled new political consciousness, says Dasho Neten Zangmo

Dasho Neten Zangmo said BKP embarked upon the challenging mission of redefining politics and politicians.

The BKP team, she said, worked tirelessly and selflessly without wavering from its mission despite the militating environment.

“It instilled a new political consciousness in the people and set the standard for political integrity,” she wrote.

“BKP has to draw important lessons from the election, build its forte and emerge as a strong contender for the 4th parliamentary elections in 2023. It has to win! What and where we are is because of our country. We owe it to her and have to unconditionally fulfill our natural responsibility. BKP cannot retreat as it has much to offer,” she added.

She added she will always remain committed to BKP’s sacred mission.
