UPDATE: The forest fire in Athang Gewog in Wangdue Phodrang has been controlled.
The fire broke out around 12pm Wednesday from Jaroggang village. Some 500 acres of forest are reported to have been destroyed as of last evening.
Firefighters battled the fire from different locations. Strong winds prevented them from containing the fire sooner.
