Significant decrease in business and ICT (Information and Communication Technology) graduates in the country, states the labour ministry’s “Beyond Graduation Survey 2017.”
The report which was out recently, indicates that only 29 out of 1,781 students pursued ICT degree courses. “This can be attributed to the unemployment faced by the ICT graduates over the last few years. This is also a good indication that higher secondary graduates respond to labour market dynamics and employment opportunities,” said Officiating Chief Programme Officer of labour ministry, Tenzin Choden.
Nearly 79 per cent of graduates, who attended the National Graduates Orientation Programme last year, were interviewed during the survey. As per the report, majority of graduates passed out in 2014 were business management, arts and humanities, and ICT degree holders.
But last year, university graduates with arts and humanities and ICT degree certificates outnumbered others.
The survey report has also reveals that the satisfaction of ICT graduates about their courses is less compared to other courses.
The survey was carried out to compile and assess post-graduation outcome and perception of the graduates entering the labour market.
