With much deliberation, the National Assembly today decided to increase the wage rate of the National Work Force. The issue was also discussed in the National Council earlier this month.

The Lhamoy Zingkha- Trashiding MP, Hemant Gurung, proposed on the need of increasing of the National Work Force wage rate.

The opposition leader, Tshering Tobgay asked the government on why the wage rate has not been revised for a very long time.

The government has revised the wage in 2000 to Nu. 100 per day and since then there is no revision on the wage rate,” said the Opposition Leader, adding that it was high time the government should look into the welfare of the needy ones.

The Works and Human Settlement Minister, Lyonpo Yeshey Zimba, said the government has already discussed on increasing the wage rate. He said to increase the wage rate now the government has to look into several conditions.

“The Lhengye Zhugtshog has already decided on increasing the wage rate and this will be done very soon. We have to now look at the nature of the work and the location of the work. Then only we can increase the wages accordingly,” said Lyonpo Yeshi Zimba.

He also added that the government is also looking into other welfare of the workers, including free electricity, water, housing and other necessities.

After much deliberation, the Speaker, Tshogpoen Jigme Tshultim, announced the House on the increment.
