The artificial turf football ground in Gyalpoizhing in Monggar, the first of its kind in the country’s east, was inaugurated yesterday.
His Royal Highness the Gyaltshab Jigme Dorji Wangchuck graced the opening of the much awaited ground. His Royal Highness was accompanied by Ashi Yeatso Lhamo.
His Royal Highness granted footballs as soelra to the students gathered for the inauguration.
Three exhibition matches were played to mark the opening of the Nu 17 million artificial turf ground. The players including students from Gylapoizhing Central School were overjoyed. For many, it was their first time playing soccer on an artificial turf ground.
The construction of the artificial turf was carried out with financial support from the government of India.
