The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) forwarded a government land encroachment case involving former Chang Gup Naku to the Thimphu District Court last Friday.

The former Chang Gup has been mired in a series of land scams since 2014. The present case concerns an alleged encroachment of government land in Serbithang, Thimphu.

OAG says former Gup Naku fraudulently registered government land measuring 1.6 acres near the YDF rehabilitation center in his name in 2000.

OAG is seeking to penalise Naku under the land act 1979. According to the act, encroachment of government land can attract a prison term of three months to three years. OAG is also seeking the reinstatement of the land.

Eight other land scams  involving former Gup Naku under review by OAG.
