The members of the Opposition questioned the government on their 100 percent employment pledge during the National Assembly’s Question Hour, today.

Kengkhar-Weringla MP, Rinzin Jamtsho asked if the government would be able to fulfil their 2013 election pledge given that their tenure is coming to an end.

The next election will be held in 2018.

The Labour Minister, Ngeema Sangay Tshempo said 5,780 people are unemployed as of now and that the Supplementary Budget has been proposed to address unemployment.

“We have formulated a job plan following the Prime Minister’s command to create enough jobs in the next two years.”

Lyonpo said if the jobseekers take up one of the jobs from programmes they have, the can employ everyone.

“But, if they are selective, it would be a difficult task for us.”
