The 65-bed Gyaltsuen Jetsun Pema Mother and Child Hospital in Monggar is 80 percent complete. It is on track for completion by July this year. The construction began in July 2022 and is set to be completed within the planned 36-month duration. India is funding the project worth about Nu 935 M.
The 65-bed Gyaltsuen Jetsun Pema Mother and Child Hospital is located in Nadangzor, a few kilometres from Monggar town.
Although initially scheduled to begin in late 2021, the project was delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Despite setbacks such as the pandemic, the collapse of the Kuri-Gongri bridge and some additional works such as building a retaining wall, the project is on track for timely completion.
“We have completed approximately 80 per cent of the civil structure and the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing work, including heating, cooling, air conditioning, medical gas systems, fire-fighting, electrical, and plumbing. External site development is also 80 per cent complete. With only 20 per cent of the work remaining, we anticipate finishing the project by July this year,” said Dorji Rabten, project manager at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport.
A private contractor is carrying out the construction on a 32-acre land. The health ministry in collaboration with the infrastructure and transport ministry is carrying out the project.
“We come across several issues during such construction projects, with some items reported as missing during the handover. That’s why we called the department head and officials to assess whether the structure was built in accordance with their needs. Based on their feedback, we made adjustments to some of the interior room layouts for better convenience,” added the project manager.
The project manager said that after the construction is complete, the Japan International Cooperation Agency will supply and install all the medical machinery and equipment.
Once complete, the hospital will provide specialised mother and child health services to six eastern districts.
