Bhutan Tennis Federation to host first international tournamentThe Bhutan Tennis Federation is gearing up to host the country’s first international tennis tournament. The three day Asian Tennis Tour 2016 will begin from September 16.

Except for some final touches, the club house in Thimphu is almost ready for the tournament. The floor has been refurbished and rewiring complete.

Over Nu 3 M has was spent to add new features to the club house.

The National Head Coach of Bhutan Tennis Federation, Tshering Namgay said the club house has basic facilities, just like international club houses, in place.

He said the club house has to host a players’ lounge, a pro-shop, stringing machine, washrooms and a conference hall, among others.

“Well, I am quite excited actually. My federation members are all putting in their efforts. We have to give a good first impression so that we can host many more international tournaments and we are almost set and ready to host this first international tennis tour.”

Around five Bhutanese players will take part in the tournament. The selection matches are taking place currently. Players from India, Thailand, Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will join them.

The Asian Tennis Tour is a year round tennis tour aimed to increase the number of professional tennis players in Asia and providing financial stability to them.

If Bhutan successfully hosts the event, the International Tennis Federation will sanction more such tournaments to Bhutan in the future.
