He said supporting local products will minimize imports, curb unemployment, and also help Rupee remain in the country.

The ministry will monitor the timely supply of shoes to the schools, durability, affordability, student preferences, and cost efficiencies.

The firms will ensure timely delivery.

Druk Shoes’s Tshewang Namgyel said they will ensure timely delivery as they would be produce 400 pairs a day.

He also said they are buying materials directly from the factory which means the price will be slightly cheap compared to the imported ones.

“We make shoes that suit our climatic condition so it is better and the price is also reasonable,” said Dodo of Dodo Shoes.

The Memorandum of Understanding signed between the ministry and the two shoe firms is for a year.
