The upcoming thromde election in Samdrup Jongkhar is likely to see three candidates contest for the post of Thrompon.

The present Thrompon, Karma Sherab Thobgyal, 46, will be contesting again.

He said there are many activities that are incomplete since it is the mid year of the 11th five year plan. “I feel I should stand to see that there is continuity.”

The other contender is a business woman, Dechen Wangmo, 36. She had lost the last thromde election.

She said she is contesting to be the voice for women in her thromde.

“I have a huge responsibility to work towards gender equality and also work for the betterment of our municipality,” said Dechen Wangmo.

The third contestant is Sangay Tenzin, 43. He worked as an engineer in Paro Municipality for 15 years.

He said since most of the works in municipality is technical and related to his field, he would be the right person to take up the Thrompon post.

“I have undertaken municipality projects from planning to implementation.”

With six constituencies, Samdrup Jongkhar Thromde has 392 male and 415 female registered voters.
