BhutanToiletOrganisationThanks to Bhutan Toilet Org, public toilets in the country are getting cleaner. It has been two years since the organisation came to being.

The organisation’s founder, Passang Tshering, a former teacher, said if the country is to have clean public toilets; the people’s perception of it needs to change.BhutanToiletOrganisation--

“In our country, the problem started a long time ago. There are some cultural influences to it. We feel toilets will be dirty at the end of the day. So, what we do is, we built toilet far away from populated areas.”

He said when it is away from where people live, people do not make an effort to keep it clean.

Passang also said shortage of toilets and water are some challenges.

“Since we started our campaign, we have seen significant improvement in toilets that we have managed.”

He said they don’t just clean it once and leave but go back to show how it is managed.

“The whole idea of clean toilet has reached across the country. People are talking about it. We see people taking initiatives in their own little ways across the country.”

Bhutan Toilet Org currently has four members.
