The celebration began with a prayer ceremony at the Shivalaya Mandir, which was inaugurated yesterday afternoon by the Prime Minister.

After the prayer ceremony, the main sanctum of the Mandir opened officially to public.

This was followed by offering of Khadars to their Majesties, praying for their good health, at the Samtse Rabdey; and lighting of the butter lamps.

The Tendrel celebration, which took place at the Samtse Public ground, was attended by over thousands of people coming in from 15 gewogs under Samtse Dzongkhags; and guests and officials from five other Southern Dzongkhags.

One of the highlights of the event was the 60 years old Brokpa- a male tusker- brought especially for the Tendrel celebration from Sarpang.

There were also a series of cultural programmes. As customary, the tendrel celebration concluded with Tashi Lebay.
