Car drivers should give right of way to passengers on zebra crossingThe Royal Bhutan Police (RBP) will be strictly monitoring vehicle drivers not giving right of way to passengers on zebra crossings. In a meeting between the RBP and taxi drivers, Chief of Police Kipchu Namgyel said the rule would be implemented from Thursday onwards.

Police said, today the rule was not being followed properly as pedestrians wait for vehicles to pass.Car drivers should give right of way to passengers on zebra crossing-

If there are people waiting to cross, drivers must give way, the chief told drivers. Vehicle drivers, violating this rule would be levied a Nu 700 penalty. Taxi drivers in the meeting agreed they would abide by the law.

The chief also shared the idea of launching different queues for passengers of city buses and taxis. RBP will be rewarding one taxi driver who best follows the rule.
