PM with H.E Helen Clark, Administrator UNDPThe Prime Minister, Tshering Tobgay met the United Nations Under-Secretary-General and UNDP Administrator, Helen Clark, at the UNDP Headquarters in New York.

A press release from the Prime Minister’s office says they discussed sustainable development, climate change and other current challenges Bhutan is facing. They are said to have also discussed urbanisation and youth unemployment.

The release says the possible areas where UNDP could support Bhutan’s government efforts in implementing the Small Development Grants were also discussed.

Lyonchhen is expected to address the Plenary of the UN Summit for the adoption of the Post-2015 Development Agenda at the United Nations. He is also scheduled to meet with Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, on the sidelines of the Summit.

The UN Summit for the adoption of the Post-2015 Development Agenda opened today, at UN Headquarters in New York.

The summit will adopt the Post-2015 Development Agenda, comprising several elements: a preamble; a declaration; 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and 169 supporting targets; means of implementation (MOI) and the Global Partnership; and a framework for follow-up and review of implementation.

Approximately, 160 Heads of State or Government and 30 ministers are attending the Summit, along with over 9,000 delegates and around 3,000 accredited journalists.
