The teachers had no criminal intent or action when they questioned the girl student, who died by suicide in Monggar, reveals the investigation. The police will not forward the case to the court.

However, the independent officer, who was sent for the re-investigation, said he found a minor lapse when the girl was being questioned by the teachers. The police said a male teacher had interrogated the girl.

Otherwise, the teachers had handled the matter well within the proper required procedures, states the investigation report.

The investigation also revealed there could have been two possible reasons behind the incident; embarrassment and mental pressure because of personal problems.

On September 27, a 16-year-old school girl died by suicide during school hours. The victim’s uncle, dissatisfied with how the investigation was carried out, had appealed to the Police Chief for re-investigation.

He had accused the school had not handled the case with sensitivity.

The uncle says he is still not satisfied with what the second investigation has come up with.

He said if people involved are not taken to the task even when lapses have been found, there is a flaw in the administrative system. He said the education ministry should hold those responsible accountable.

In the meantime, the police have written to the education ministry recommending the ministry to set up proper procedure to handle sensitive issues with the students.

They have also recommended that a female teacher should talk to the female students and male teachers to male students.
