The WWF Bhutan commits Nu.53m for conserving country’s diverse ecosystem to promote sustainable livelihoods.
An agreement to this effect was signed between the WWF Bhutan and the Gross National Happiness Commission today.
The key objective of the project is to conserve Bhutan’s rich biodiversity. It is also to prevent degradation of agricultural and pastoral land and forests in the central part of the country.
The project will support sustainable livelihood practices such as up-scaling of eco-tourism, introducing new approaches to sustainable use of natural resources and promote use of non-wood based forest products through engagement of local communities.
The project will also support conservation of key species like snow leopard and red panda and protection of habitats of tiger, elephants and water buffalo.
The Project will be managed and implemented by the Department of Forests and Park Services.
