“It appears to me that more than a review, they are trying to get into investigative,” said the Royal Monetary Authority’s (RMA) Governor, Daw Tenzin, referring to the accusation the National Council had made against the Central Bank.
The National Council yesterday had accused the Royal Monetary Authority for failing to present a complete review pertaining to shortfall of Rupee in the country.
He said the National Council wanted RMA’s Board and Executive meeting minutes starting from 2007. “We responded by saying these are internal operational document which are we cannot share externally. We have given in writing, if they want information please come, we will sit together you will get whatever they want will open for them,” said the Governor. Normally, the Central Bank does not open the board meeting minutes for seven years.
The Governor said he had sent RMA’s chief economist, who was also a task-force member along with the finance secretary to attend the NC’s economic affairs committee meeting. “They explained for three hours.” Also, at that time, the Governor said, he was away to Nepal to attend a meeting.
The Governor said the Deputy Governor was officiating. “He went at the capacity of a governor. And then recently, I have sent him once. Now to say that we have not given the document is not true.”
Daw Tenzin said the National Council had called the Governor by the designation, “and Puspalal that time was officiating. Now they cannot say that the governor didn’t come.” He said it appears to him that more than a review they are trying to get in to investigative. “So if it is a case and has a court order for summon, yes I am prepared to do so but they cannot act like a court.”
