ThimphuDT-LhingzhiDzongRenovation--Lingzhi Dzong in North Thimphu was severely damaged by an earthquake in September, 2011. The dzong was not once renovated after the quake.

In Thimphu Dzongkhag Tshogdu today, Lingzhi Gup, Wangdi, highlighted that the dzong is in dire need of renovation. He added residents of Lingzhi want to know when the renovation would start.

According to Lingzhi Gup, the dzong has to be rebuilt because it houses the office of gewog officials, Lam Neten and some dratshangs.

Earlier, a budget of Nu.5m was allocated for the dzong restoration works in 2012 but the budget was not reflected in the financial year budget plan of the dzongkhag, says the Gup.

On inquiry, it was found out that the budget was allocated for other development works.

Meanwhile, the Chairperson of the Dzongkhag Tshogdu, Sonam Dorji, said Lingzhi dzong will definitely be renovated, but is not confirmed when.

Lingzhi Dzong is situated at an altitude of 4,150 metres above the sea level. It was built by the third Druk Desi Chögyal Minjur Tenpa and is an important Drukpa Kagyu monastery.
