Forestry officials and fire fighter volunteers are battling the forest fire in and around Muktangkhar village in Bartsham for the second day, today. Dessups have now joined the local fire fighter volunteers.
The fire that started below Muktangkhar village has now spread towards Riju, Ramjar Gewog in Trashi Yangtse and Bidung Gewog.
The fire has already damaged hundreds of acres of forest so far. According to Bartsham Gup, the fire currently is uncontrollable and the fire fighters are helpless. He said strong winds with dry vegetation and steep slope is hampering the efforts.
But so far the fire has caused no damages to houses and people’s lives.
