PM meets JICA's VP

PM-JICA VPThe Prime Minister, Tshering Tobgay, met with the Vice president of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Toshiyuki Kuroyanagi, at the Gyalyong Tshogkhang this morning.

During the meeting Lyonchhen thanked Mr. Kuroyanagi for coming all the way from Japan to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers program.

Lyonchhen said that the anniversary provides an opportunity to celebrate the friendship between the two countries and to honor the dedicated services of JOCV in Bhutan.

Lyonchhen expressed his appreciation to all the JOCV and said that JOCV’s significant contribution to the socio-economic development of Bhutan has been made in crucial areas of education, agriculture, health, IT, architecture, engineering and environment.JICA_Fireengines

Mr. Kuroyanagi thanked Lyonchhen and reassured JOCV’s enhanced support and assistance to Bhutan in future.

Meanwhile, the Government of Japan handed over two fire engines to the Royal Bhutan Police, today.

It was handed over by the First Secretary of the Embassy of Japan in Delhi, India, to the Chief of Police, Brigadier Kipchu Namgyel.

The fire engine was donated by Honorary Consul of Bhutan in Japan, Mayor of Inazawa City and the Fire Chief of Saitama Seibu Fire Bureau.

The Embassy of Japan in New Delhi also provided fund for the transportation of the engines to Bhutan, through the Japanese Grant Assistance for Grassroots Project.

The fire engines will be distributed to Lhuentse and Pema Gatshel Dzongkhags.

So far, Bhutan has received 24 fire engines under similar project
