DPT-PressConfJul4The Druk Phuensum Tshogpa (DPT) has appealed to the people to forgive the two parties for their failure to conduct their electoral process that befits Bhutanese culture. In a press conference, the DPT President Jigmi Y Thinley said the rest of the electoral process will be conducted in an appropriate way.

The DPT President said that they will re-appeal to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to keep Bhutan-India relations beyond politics. He said that Bhutan-India relations have been built over the years by the Kings.  He added that whoever comes to power the relations between the two countries will be strengthen.

“I wish to appeal to PDP’s President that we must leave our bilateral relations out of electoral politics and it will not be good and not in the interest of our two countries to discuss the very sensitive and very sacred matter in a true sense. And I am hopeful that this second appeal will be heeded by PDP.”

The DPT president also said the party is disheartened with the references being made to the small countries which they have established relations as not being important. He added that as sovereign and independent Country it is important to have relations with these countries.

The DPT also expressed their concern over inappropriate references to institution of Monarchy.

“One of our concerns is inappropriate references to His Majesty the King and undermining the prerogatives of sovereignty in particular with regard to census and land. We understand people being asked to fill the forms and submit documentation regarding census. The granting of citizenship is sole prerogative of His Majesty the King and no one should presume to have such power. Likewise granting of land too is His Majesty’s prerogative.”

In the press conference, the DPT president also appealed to the people to forgive the two parties for having failed to conduct the electoral process in a way that befits the Bhutanese culture. He also appealed to both the parties to ensure that rest of the electoral process will be conducted in most appropriate and with kind of decorum that people will accept.
