With a recent few cases of Nairobi fly infection reported in Samtse and Phuentshogling, the health ministry advises people not to panic but maintain good hygiene.
Native to East Africa, the Nairobi flies belong to a beetle family which is saffron in colour. The flies do not bite or sting. However, it releases a harmful chemical substance which causes skin burn, rashes, and blisters upon coming in contact. But it is not contagious.
According to the health ministry, the preventive measures include wearing long sleeve clothes, closing windows, using bed nets, and keeping the house clean.
