For many, choosing Technical and Vocational Education and Training as a career pathway has remained a challenge. It is mainly due to a lack of awareness about the skills and opportunities it offers. Today, at the TVET Fair, participants said it serves as a good platform to create awareness and facilitate enrolment of potential learners into skills development programmes.
At the Clock Tower square, students gathered in front of the stalls, taking turns to view a wide range of products displayed by the trainees of the Technical Training Institutes.
More than 600 visitors thronged the area. The majority were students from 18 different schools.
It was an opportunity to explore and advocate for skills training programmes and present the entire TVET ecosystem.
‘‘I think this fair will benefit not only TTI Chumey but all TVET institutions in promoting the skills we offer. Bumthang is far from the capital, and we face challenges with enrolment, so this is a good opportunity for us,” said Deki Choden, Instructor, Technical Training Institute, Chumey.
“Until now, such opportunities were mostly given to government institutes, with limited chances for private institutions. Participating in this fair allows us to explore and helps individuals learn about the training opportunities we provide,” said Tandin Tshering, Trainer, NLD Training Institute.
‘‘The reason why we are here is to create awareness among students about skill development, hoping that they will take an interest and be inspired,’’ said Ugyen Cheda, a student at the Royal Institute for Tourism and Hospitality.
Meanwhile, the TVET fair aims to showcase industry-relevant and future-oriented skills, strengthen collaboration between institutes and industry, promote gender equality and inclusion, and encourage enrolment in skills development programmes.
The TVET Fair will be held across four districts, starting today in Thimphu, and will continue in Bumthang, Trashigang, and Samdrup Jongkhar over the coming days until the end of this month.
