Following the multiple EMI deductions reported on Wednesday, the Bank of Bhutan has clarified that a technical error caused the issue during salary processing in its newly migrated Core Banking System. The system error affected approximately 3,500 government employees.
Yesterday, BBS reported on customers who experienced repeated EMI deductions in a single day, with some accounts being debited multiple times.
The Bank of Bhutan stated today that the issue occurred on Wednesday at around 12:30 pm while processing the first batch of government salary files in its newly migrated system.
According to the bank, a technical issue occurred whereby multiple loan recovery files were generated during salary processing. This meant the system processed the EMI deduction more than once for some accounts.
The issue mostly impacted government employees with
consumer and vehicle loans, who faced deductions ranging from one to eight times.
The bank has assured that loan records and credit history will not be affected. To prevent this from happening again, the bank has added a system check to stop duplicate deductions in the future.
The matter has also been reported to the central bank as part of the bank’s system migration update.
The Bank of Bhutan has apologised for the inconvenience and reassured customers that their accounts remain safe and secure.
