Speaking at the India AI Impact Summit 2026, in New Delhi last evening, Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay presented two areas of collaboration to shape the future of a responsible and inclusive AI. The Prime Minister highlighted clean energy and the Gelephu Mindfulness City as two relevant areas for partnership.
At the Leaders’ Plenary Session of the India AI Impact Summit 2026, the Prime Minister reaffirmed that energy is one of the most critical areas of collaboration in artificial intelligence, as AI’s vast computational needs demand unprecedented levels of power.
“Today, we see new possibilities as we expand our renewable energy portfolio by including partnerships with leading Indian companies such as Tata Power and Adani Power. But we have opportunities to welcome many more from India and beyond. Clean energy powers homes and industry. Now this clean, renewable energy is poised to drive the next generation of digital infrastructure and AI innovation, not just in Bhutan, but in our region.”
Additionally, the Prime Minister presented the Gelephu Mindfulness City as another area of collaboration. The prime minster said GMC, a visionary hub for sustainable innovation and responsible enterprise, is designed to draw energy-intensive industries, ranging from green data centres to cutting-edge AI research, creating a space where advanced technologies can grow on a foundation of clean, sustainable power.
“It is our vision to create a space where compute capacity grows not at the expense of the planet, but in harmony with it, guided by environmental stewardship, ethical responsibility, and Bhutan’s value-based development philosophy. This is AI with purpose, not AI without limits. A technological sanctuary where higher wisdom shapes technological capacity.”
At the event, Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay said that artificial intelligence has evolved rapidly, from analysing vast amounts of data to making decisions beyond human capability. However, he emphasized if wisdom does not guide innovation, technology can deepen inequality, spread misinformation and move faster than governance can respond, potentially causing destruction.
“History will not judge us by how advanced our technology was. It will judge us by whether that technology made our society fairer, kinder and more humane. And it is visionary and responsible leadership that ensures such progress serves all of humanity.”
The five-day India AI Impact Summit 2026 has brought together policymakers, industry leaders, academics and civil society to discuss governance, safety and the societal impact of artificial intelligence.
