The long-standing water shortage in Bangtsho, Kipse, and Samdrup Gatshel constituencies in Samdrup Jongkhar Thromde has now been resolved. A new water source at Morongchhu now ensures a reliable year-round supply for residents.

Residents now have an adequate water supply to carry out daily household chores.

Usually at this time of the year, they face an acute shortage lasting for weeks as water levels drop at the Zalakhe and Lemsorong sources.

Now, except for occasional disruptions caused by pipe bursts, they have water running in their taps 24/7.

“The old water source at Lemsorong was small and insufficient. Now, with the additional water source, the supply is adequate. Even if we face disruptions, they are fixed within a day or two,” said Lungten Zangmo, Resident, Samdrup Jongkhar Thromde.

“Earlier, plumbers supplied water on a rotational basis to Samdrup Gatshel and our area. But now, with the new water supply from Morong, that system is no longer needed. This will benefit us greatly,” said Wangchuk, Resident, Samdrup Jongkhar Thromde.

“After we started getting water from Morong, our problem has been solved. We’re very grateful for it. Now, we don’t face many problems,” said Cheten Choden, Resident, Samdrup Jongkhar Thromde.

“Earlier, we had problems with the water source, besides the pipes being old. Sometimes, we had to stay without water for weeks. But now, with the new water supply, we are getting water throughout the day, except for the occasional pipe damage,” said Ugyen Wangchuk, Resident, Samdrup Jongkhar Thromde.

The water supply from Morongchhu, connected to a 275,000-litre storage tank, was completed this year, spending Nu 124 M, funded by the Asian Development Bank.

It benefits more than 4,000 residents in the three constituencies.
