Another wave of volunteerism is set to sweep across Gelephu Mindfulness City. Beginning Monday, the third round of volunteer work will see over 5,000 volunteers coming together for five days of area development and soft-scaping activities.

Following the success of the earlier two programs, the city is once again preparing to host thousands of volunteers from across Bhutan.

This time, work will focus on landscaping and preparing land for sowing high-quality grasses such as Bermuda grass, imported specially for the project.

“This time, our focus will be on the central park areas that were cleared in the last round. We will prepare the land for the cultivation of high-quality grasses imported from abroad, and a few individuals will also be trained to carry out the work,” said Dasho Dr Lotay Tshering, the governor of GMC.

Besides Bermuda grass, shade-tolerant grasses, flowers, and various tree species will be planted across the development zones.

Adding to the program, the Governor also shared that the Innovate for GMC program will be launched alongside the volunteer works.

“On the 7th of this month, we will launch Innovate for GMC, a noble vision of His Majesty The King. The program is designed to provide a platform for our youth to showcase their talents and ideas that can contribute to the development of GMC.”

As of today, the GMC office confirmed over 5,000 registrations. But with volunteers from nearby districts also expected, the number may rise to six or even seven thousand, similar to previous rounds.

Volunteers are advised to bring their own tools, wear light gho or kira, and will be provided with a simple working lunch and hydration at the worksite.
