More than 3,700 patients in Dagana received treatment from His Majesty’s Kidu Mobile Medical Camp. The two-week-long camp brought about six specialists in the district, providing specialist services for the residents of remote areas. The camp concluded today at Drujeygang.

The Kidu Mobile Medical Camp found non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, and osteoarthritis as some of the most common health conditions in Dagana.

“So we go to the rural places and then deliver specialist service so that people benefit. And we not only see one time, we go to the rural places, get in touch with people whom we can handle at the site, and those we cannot handle, we make referrals, and we coordinate the referrals, call the patients to Thimphu or other nearby health centres. We facilitate getting the full treatment for the patients,” said Dr Phurb Dorji, Head, His Majesty’s Kidu Mobile Medical Camp.

For rural residents, such camps reduce the financial burden incurred from travelling to the National Referral Hospital for specialist services.

“Our elders cannot travel far away in vehicles. They get motion sickness, and moreover, it is difficult to get a ride. This kind of camp is helpful in such situations. Further, it is also difficult for families from a humble background to arrange money to travel to hospitals in other districts,” said Dupchu Dorji, Resident, Drujegang, Dagana.

“The camp has helped me a lot today. My friends and neighbours also came along to reap the benefit of the mobile medical camp,” said Sangaymo, Resident, Drujegang, Dagana.

The camp brought seven doctors and 11 supporting staff from the National Referral Hospital. They provided out-patient services for gynaecology, surgical, paediatric and dental services.

They also performed surgeries and other lab services such as endoscopy and ultrasound in Dagana town, Dagapela and Drujeygang.

This is the Kidu Mobile Medical Camp’s second visit to the district following the first visit in 2019. The health professionals plan to visit again in winter in Lhamizingkha Dungkhag.
