Firm action may be taken against fronting and hidden foreign investments in the tourism sector. This is among the seven recommendations adopted in the Review Report on the State of Tourism in Bhutan by the National Council today. Fronting involves foreigners running tour and transport businesses under Bhutanese names to bypass ownership laws. The Economic Affairs Committee said such practices undermine the sector’s integrity and take away income from genuine Bhutanese operators. The committee revealed that citizens had confidentially reported such cases to them. The report will be submitted to the government for the necessary action.
