Residents of six gewogs in lower Trashi Yangtse can now look forward to a more reliable fuel supply with the opening of a new fuel outlet in Doksum. The State Trading Corporation of Bhutan, STCBL inaugurated the outlet yesterday, bringing the total number of fuel stations in the area to two.
A fuel depot was set up in Doksum last year but it often faced machine malfunction and fuel shortage, leading to inconsistent fuel supply.
As a result, residents often had to travel for hours to Trashigang or Trashi Yangtse to refuel.
However, with the opening of an additional fuel outlet in Doksum, they now expect a more reliable fuel supply.
It will benefit around 500 vehicle owners of Toedtsho, Jamkhar, Yalang, Khamdang, Tongmajangsa, and Ramjar gewogs besides Khorlochhu project staff.
The outlet established by STCBL, has a total storage capacity of 90 kiloliters, 45 kiloliters each for petrol and diesel.
Neten Gyeltshen, a taxi driver in Toedtsho Gewog said “We usually ask our friends whether there is fuel at the Doksum depot. Otherwise, if we come all the way and find there’s no fuel, we have to travel to Trashigang. But now, with two depots available, I believe this will benefit the people of the six gewogs.”
Bikash Rai, a businessman of Doksum said “The old fuel station often caused problems. Sometimes, we had to travel all the way to Trashigang.”
The new outlet was constructed at a cost of over Nu 9 M.
Construction began in September last year and was completed in February.
With this addition, STCBL has now established 11 fuel outlets across the country.
