PM-SJ-LeastDevelopedThe Prime Minister, Jigmi Y.Thinley, said he is disappointed with the performance of Samdrup Jongkhar, when it comes to development activities.

Lyonchhoen was speaking to the civil servants, business community and the people of Samdrup Jongkhar on Saturday.

Lyonchhoen said the biggest failure has been the lack of cooperation from the people. He said they haven’t been forthcoming in assisting the government. He also asked the people involved to come up with convincing reasons as to why the dzongkhag is lagging behind.

The dzongkhag has achieved only 78 percent of rural electrification and 90 percent of mobile connectivity. Gewogs like Lauri and Serthi are yet to be electrified

The dzongkhag hasn’t been able to achieve 100 percent water supply scheme. Even the primary enrollment of the district stands at 99 percent while 100 percent enrollment have been reported in other dzongkhags.

Road connecting Lauri is still under construction and is expected to be complete only by the end of this year.

Samrang gewog is yet to be covered under mobile network. The Bhutan Telecom’s Regional Manager in Samdrup Jongkhar, Rabilal Pokhrel, said the overall connectivity in the dzongkhag will be increased once the mobile tower has been installed in Samrang. “The tower will be installed soon,” he said.

The Prime Minister was accompanied by the home and cultural affairs minister, Minjur Dorji. He arrived in Thimphu today.
