Every beat, every brushstroke, and every performance starts with a spark of creativity. This World Intellectual Property Day, Bhutan took a step closer to promoting that creative spark with the launch of the Artist Registration System, an initiative for Bhutanese artists designed to uplift the creative community.
Celebrated under the theme “Intellectual Property and Music: Feel the Beat of IP,” the Artist Registration System is an initiative that offers a platform for local artists to network and connect with both local and global markets, while maintaining a comprehensive database of Bhutanese creative practitioners.
According to officials, it will also promote creative programmes and initiatives happening across the country.
“It’s very important in this age of digital technology to have a comprehensive list of artists. Having this database will serve to create a culture of database management. Secondly, we can reach out to them as and when required without wasting time; otherwise, we have to reach them through other people,” said Tempa Tshering, the Chief of Intellectual Property, Department of Media Creative Industries and Intellectual Property.
Officials encouraged all artists to register on the platform to ensure they are part of the county’s growing creative database.
Additionally, those who register early could benefit from capacity-building workshops, funding opportunities and possible collaborations.
“I think this launch will help a lot of young artists, especially the upcoming artists, and not just them, but artists of our age also will reap the benefit. I think we will be having opportunities to explore, collaborate with a lot of young, talented, already established musicians from around the world,” said Ugyen, popularly known as Ugyen Panday.
The registration process will open by mid of next month.
